Take a tour through Ardgrain, the 17th Century 'Grade A' house on the outskirts of Ellon

Ardgrain has been described as one of the crispest, sparest and most truly Scots houses in the North-East.

Built by the Kennedy family of Ellon Castle, Ardgrain is thought to be the oldest building of its kind in this part of Scotland.

Famed for their natural beauty, the Cairngorms in the Cairngorm National Park span from Aviemore in the north-west, Glen Gairn, and Braemar in the south-east, and Glen Feshie in the south-west. The Cairngorms feature the primeval Caledonian forest, which is one of the last in Britain. Originally a fording place across the Ythan river, Ellon slowly grew to became the Buchan seat of power in the Middle Ages when Ellon Castle (called Ardgith) was built by the Kennedy family. Robert the Bruce totally destroyed Ellon in 1308 as part of the "Harrying of Buchan" following the defeat of his enemy, the Earl of Buchan.  Read more »
