Greetings to you, what a great website. My family is from the Ellon area my Great Grandfather was the first Provost of the Town and I am related to the Garlands "next door". If "Christine" from Australia is interested an extensive history of the Garlands has been researched and Leonard should be able to help.
Keep up the good work, regards

Hello from British Columbia, Canada. Just enjoyed perusing the photos of lovely Ellon to get a sense of my great-grandfather's birthplace. Alexander Sangster was born there in 1854, son of William Sangster and Mary Kennedy (a descendant of 'Lang Tam' Phillip Kennedy). Alexander emigrated to Canada where, among other accomplishments, he was foreman/mason in the construction of Craigdarroch Castle in Victoria, BC. I'm trying to identify who his siblings might have been and more about Mary Kennedy. In the next couple of years I'll bring my family over there for a good look around that coast, as several of our forebears (Sangster, Kennedy, Tait, Christie, Fraser, Gill and Davidson) were from there. For example, John Sangster was born at Slains Castle around 1796. So, thanks for the photo tour, and you can share my contact address with anyone who might have links or interest in the above family names, especially if they can tie up loose ends on those who eventually emigrated to Canada.

Enjoyed coming back a few times and see the sun set this evening. Its early afternoon near Boston, MA.
Is there a red light in the center of the image at night? Thanks! Bradshaw

Reply: The red light in view at night is a distant radio tower, which really stands out on dark nights...

Wow!! What an interesting village. I just love the architecture of the old buildings and the history of these old villages and enjoy studying it all. I have been told there are "Garland Family" living in the village they also came from Ardlethen. I am doing our family tree and would love to make contact.

Kind regards, Christine from Australia

 -  Reply: Christine, If you can send your e-mail address through we can put you in contact with the Garlands, who live nearby.

The pictures I've viewed show a beautiful country. I would love one day to visit Scotland.

Ellon ...such a beautiful place. The scenery is fab, the people are friendly. A lovely relaxing place to visit.

Looking through the webcam makes me homesick. I moved away from Aberdeenshire just over 2 years ago, to Houston, Texas. The scenery here consists mainly of objects formed from concrete. So seeing the Scottish countryside is a welcome break.
